Rebuilt Watoola Methodist Church
Over the years I have taken many photographs of this particular church just because of it's proximity. It's a beautiful small country church that sits on this wonderful open piece of property that gives it a great big sky. Big sky country this is not. It is often difficult to see any sky above the pines, but this church has plenty of sky. Watoola Methodist Church was destroyed, and later torn down, in a tornado (👈 📸) that came through our area back in March 2019.
The Beauregard Tornado
In case some don't remember or know about that particular tornado, it was quite devastating to a huge area (the President even flew over our property in Marine One). On the afternoon of March 3, 2019, a violent and long-tracked EF4 tornado struck portions of eastern Alabama and western Georgia, causing extreme damage along its path. This tornado was the deadliest tornado in the United States since the 2013 Moore tornado, killing 23 and injuring 97 (read more about the Beauregard Tornado).
It brushed our house and destroyed several of our neighbors homes, and this particular church as well. It has since been completely rebuilt and sits as it did before the March 3rd tornado. This was the first time I had a chance to take photos of the rebuilt church even though it had been rebuilt a while ago.
Photographs Selected
It was by coincidence that someone happened to be there on this Friday late afternoon. I'm grateful they were nice enough to let me inside to take some images of the sanctuary. It looks amazing on the inside now. The images below are a sample of the church and it's property. The images are also a part of my portfolio collection called The Church.
