Welcome to my website, an independent ad-free publication with new photography, writing, and life experiences published every week. Subscribing is free and gives you full access to the complete archive, email newsletters, and new content as it's published. Your subscription is also what keeps this site running without ads, something I've maintained since it began in 1993.

The search at the top works well for anything specific, but there's also a full Archive Map which lists every page, post, and tag.

My aim is to share useful content without clutter or sales noise. If you'd like to support the site beyond subscribing, one-time donations of any amount are welcome, and I occasionally use use affiliate links as well.

Some Useful Hub Pages

I have pages created in "hubs" and "pages" where a hub page (notated at the top by the title) contains a list of all the pages within that hub. I've done it like this to keep the nav clean and easy to explore.

Website History

My first website was started circa 1993 on Concentric.net at concentric.net/~sfillmer (you can still see my old site on the wayback machine), which moved to WordPress.org in 2002, to Automattic at WordPress.com in 2018, until I finally decided to take full ownership control over my content in 2025-2026 after years of moving in that direction. I'm now building static sites and CMS content in markdown files (which currently get uploaded to Ghost).

My Services Company

I am a freelance content creator, manager, and systems administrator under my company name Fillmer Services Co. I manage my content using a CDN I've setup using my website slf.media (where all my images are stored and called like the one below). My work is with commercial services in website design and content management, my formal Resume is also available.

About Me

I have lived all over the country, with most of my roots in Alabama, and I call the Auburn-Opelika area home. Over the years I’ve loved my time living in California, Texas, Florida, New Jersey, and various other places, but Auburn-Opelika will always be home to me. I’ve had the privilege of traveling all over the world from Australia to Uganda and everywhere in between. This has given me a unique perspective on different cultures and ways of life I could never have understood without having gone there in person, and it’s impacted my life and thinking tremendously.

My wife and I are also actively creating content, posts, and videos, for our travel site Shanty Travelers so head over there for a fresh perspective on vanlife!

Personal Statement

I recognize that most people are doing the best they can. We do not all have to agree on everything, and that is perfectly fine. I respect every person equally, to the best of my abilities, regardless of who they are or what they believe. I hope you will extend me the same courtesy.

I would love to connect with you personally, if you have any comments or questions just click contact link in the footer.
