Van Build Friday Feet
This year I have made an attempt to get better at posting more often to my various weekly series posts, so today, for my Friday Feet update, it's a little bit of our van build. This week I've been working on the garage area (aka the trunk, the boot) which contains a compartment for tools on the right side, and all our AC and DC electrical hookups on the left side. If you're interested in our camper van we are building, the latest update is over at Hitch, Cargo Carrier, and Generator Install, but we have been documenting the whole process from the beginning when we bought the van.
We started this project back in 2022 and have made fits and starts with it depending on the budget and time we had, but we are moving more quickly now. If you want to scroll through the posts you can see all the posts for Loki here. This is our second time at building an RV (or whatever you want to call it). We did this with a full size greyhound bus almost 20 years ago now. I'm using those archived recesses of my brain to remember how to do all this stuff. I'm sure nothing has changed at all in 20 years. 🙄
Denim Window Sun Shades
One of the really cool things about the van interior is how we decided to use old jeans. Deborah used her professional seamstress skills and has made the interior completely out of old recycled blue jeans. In the photos below Deborah is making the sun shades, which go in all the windows making it a blackout on both the outside and inside. There is a layer of heat resistant fabric between the jeans on the side we look at and the black, which is the side facing out of the windows. They are the best custom window sun shades I've ever seen.
Edgar the Papillon
As always Edgar our Papillon is helping every step along the way. He loves loves loves the van. This is his happy place. We are working hard to get the camper van to the point where we can actually take it to Colorado in December and see our son and his family, so today, no photography but van progress was made.
What I'm Reading
I was looking back through some old posts and I kinda miss the day when we all did blogrolls and link shares. But that was Web 1.0 and the world has moved on. I still think it's great to create a community of bloggers and link out to those sites, which I try to do now and then like I did in my post Summer Flowers and Fascinating People but I love a good blogroll, mainly because Google doesn't index or show these sites.
If you aren't a big site, you're basically invisible to Google. One of my favorite sites to read right at the moment is a monochrome (mostly) photography site shojiwax because he has such a great collection of short, raw, exposed posts. Lake George exposed. is one that just showed up in my inbox with an image shot on film from a Canon AE-1. The shot is, to me, perfect with light leaks and all, so genuine. I have a Canon AE-1 that had the same light leaks (now fixed with some seals from Amazon) when I shot Auburn’s A-Day Through Vintage Film. I actually liked how the film resolved much more as time went on.
Book wise I'm still reading Prayer by Hallesby. It's a more challenging read than I had anticipated, but it's a labor well worth the time.
