First impressions are always fascinating to me. Only once do you get to fully experience something for the first time. After you've been there once you just take things in from a different perspective. First impressions going into Harbor Pointe Marina to my eyes was amazing. It had been on my list to check out for quite a while and I was finally able to get over there a few weeks ago when I went out to Wind Creek State Park Marina. I actually had no idea it was located inside such an amazing gated community. The marina itself is in a beautiful location, has first class facilities, and I'm sure is very busy during the warmer months. When I was there, it was not warm, at all.

Photography was a bit of a challenge on this day. The light was ugly-stark, harsh, with no clouds and reflections everywhere. So everything I took this day was super high contrasty and harsh, basically the opposite of a "golden hour" so there are a lot of blues and greens and almost zero reds-orange. No soft tones this time around.

The marina is laid out in a typical grid going out towards the "pointe" and wet slips were around 60-70% ish full. Being the middle of winter it was super peaceful and quiet. You can also see in the background below the water line is still very low. Lake Martin water levels rise and fall each season and being winter, the water is still down quite a bit.

This was one of my favorite sailboats I came across below. I never could find a make-model but it was a short stubby sailboat with a wide beam with just a main going through the bow. Such an amazing little boat.

It was pretty hard to get any background isolation with these sailboats since they were packed into the slips side by side so it feels a little chaotic for my photographic tastes, but I pulled out a few of my favorite below. It was great to finally get out to Harbor Pointe Marina and see what they had to offer. Their indoor dry storage was crazy impressive and about three stories tall. There was a nice shop but I had just run out of time to go in and check it out.

The "Pointe" has this really cool lighthouse, in what looks like a park. I didn't have time to figure out how to get over to the lighthouse, maybe next time. I couldn't decide which version I liked better, horizontal or vertical, they both have their place and I shot both at the time, so both are below. It would have been great if some birds had flow into the frame, but they didn't, and I'm not about adding birds with AI so it is as it was on a cold January day. I made the vertical shot into a full size iPhone-Android wallpaper, if you would like to download that one you can do so at the link above.

Driving over to the marina I made my way through the countless pine tree tunnels there are between Wind Creek State Park and Harbor Pointe Marina. The one below is the exit road leaving Wind Creek State Park. I'm not sure where the next water-boat excursion will be, there is super cold weather coming and shooting in 17°F isn't my most favorite thing in the world.
