Monochrome Monday Stadium Version
Today’s Monochrome Monday photo features a stadium edition. This post is from my ongoing weekly series set of posts, today's of course being Monday. Jordan-Hare Stadium is probably my most photographed subject in black and white—so much so that my first photo book was entirely dedicated to it (although not all in black and white).
The image below is what I used on the cover of that book. Even though it was an epic loss, it is still one of my favorite shots. I love the AU banner placed there before it was permanent, there are no Heisman statues where they are today, no vendors, no food trucks, just people. It simply reminds me of what it's like being an Auburn fan, when your expectations are that every single game is going to end in a W, and often doesn't.
One reason I’ve captured so many images over the years is that it's one of those iconic places where the photographic possibilities are endless, even after years of shooting. Every time I think I’ve taken every angle imaginable, I find a new way to see the stadium.
Of course, some images can only be taken once—like the historic moment captured above, when I walked out with 88,000 other dejected fans after a last-minute loss to LSU in a forgettable night game on The Plains.
Jordan-Hare in Monochrome
I love Jordan-Hare Stadium in black and white. It just has some kind of mysterious appeal to it when you strip away the color. Almost like a way of taking a piece of history and memorializing it, removing it from present day.
This Friday night is the annual football banquet we go to every year. A traditional dinner with a few thousand other season ticket holders that generally marks the one month to kick off point. This year I'm going to haul my camera around with me and hopefully post more often than I did last year. The last few years I grew tired of hauling it around to the games. A covid result when clear bags and "don't bring anything" to the games became the norm. But this year I'm going all in, so to speak, and taking my camera to all the various sporting events coming up. War Eagle.
