An Epic Week in the Garden
Today I'm finally bringing back my weekly series called Friday Feet after an epic week of work in the garden. I haven't done a Friday Feet post in a while. And when I mean a while, I mean the last one was in 2013, so apparently I took a 12 year break. I use to use these posts as a recap of the week and really enjoyed putting them together.
As a recap for this week, we planted an epic number of Iris bulbs in our raised garden beds. This was a large three part order we placed with Schreiner’s Gardens in Oregon back in early February. We spent most of the year this year building raised beds just for these bulbs, and they now all have a home in the ground. Welcome Iris bulbs to the 100% humidity of the south.
Deborah's Iris Garden
We started a website just for the Iris garden and other garden type stuff, so eventually we will have a full writeup on all things Iris bulbs over there. If you are interested, check out Deborah's Iris Garden (DIG). All the garden updates go on over there, this week it just happened to be we were engulfed with Iris bulbs and the updates over there aren't quite caught up to current day, so this is current day.
Relentless Humidity
The humidity right now is just relentless, so working outside is a sweaty mess. This time of year all our windows are fogged up with humidity and look like this every day. The frogs and the plants love it, humans and camera equipment, not as much. If you do a lot of work outside like we do it's not the most pleasant experience, but it doesn't last forever, eventually fall will arrive.
Today, along with my "feet" shots, I took some of the Vinca blooming. All the plants are covered in dew so this is how it looks when you walk outside right now.
Somehow we also have a random white Azalea blooming right now too. Now way you can mistake July-August for spring so he's a little confused, but it's nice to see a bloom from one of the new super-small Azalea plants. Next spring around here is going to be amazing with color. We planted approximately 200 Iris bulbs this week, which came to about 60 different varieties (or colors). Spring 2026 should be the most colorful we've ever had here.
