Yearly Recap 2021 Distraction
As a way to take an objective view of my photography I am working on a yearly recap gallery for each year going backwards to the 90s. For each year below I select 24 images to represent the year. If interested, I also have a gear breakdown year by year.
Thoughts About 2021
This year was undeniably dominated by all things Covid and proved to be quite distracting, to say the least. It wasn’t a particularly great year for many reasons, and photographically, it turned out to be one of my most unfulfilling, rivaling perhaps only 2020. I captured fewer images this year than in any previous year dating back to 2007, with the exception of 2014. Not only did I take fewer images, but I also neglected to write any blog posts, update my social media, and barely maintained a presence outside of my work, which was consuming all my time.
Nevertheless, I managed to capture some images, albeit not with the same passion for photography as in previous years. Most of the images were taken out of necessity, either for work or in response to particular moments in time. Despite my dissatisfaction with many of them, I’ve selected the 24 that I believe best represent this year.
These images from this period were created almost out of obligation rather than from a genuine passion for photography. They were either work-related or captured in response to specific circumstances, yet I still made the effort to create them. While it wasn’t a fond period photographically, I do have an appreciation for the images I produced during that time.
